Day Five - 2024 IOM World Championships in Gladstone Queensland, Australia.

Hosted by the Australian Radio Yachting Association and the Gladstone Radio Controlled Yacht Club

The second last day of the IOM World Championships was, for the leaders, akin to a card dealer shuffling a deck. There were big moves up and down the scorecard, with most of the sailors at the top of the table posting some big numbers back to back and then also posting some great results.

Conditions were again perfect in Gladstone. We had a 10kn breeze, with a few shifty gusts throughout the day. The great weather allowed the race officers to complete five races, which is 25 flights. The intensity and closeness of the racing created much of the volatility in the scorecards today.

Romain Dubreuil was the best performer of the day, closely followed by Zvonko Jelacic and Paul Jones. After 17 races, Zvonko is the only competitor with results from only the A fleet. Unfortunately for our third-place competitor, Alexis Carre from France, he had a bad finish to the day and dropped into the C Fleet for the start of racing on the final day. Alexis has been consistent throughout the regatta and was threatening for second overall until his last two races today.

Going into our final day, Zvonko leads on 44 points, Ian Vickers is second on 50 points, with Alexis third on 69 points. We do not get another race drop on the scorecard until after 24 races are completed. We won't get to 24 races, so all mistakes will hurt today.

The forecast for our final day, is for East North East breeze, 10-15 knots.

The World continues to tune in to the Livestream.
