100 days out - and the countdown is on....

Updated: Jul 16

The International One Metre World Working Group (IOMWWG) is thrilled to announce remarkable progress in preparation for the 2024 IOM World Championships, which will take place in Gladstone this October.

Unparalleled Community Support

While some outside the city’s postcode may initially have thought the ARYA and Gladstone RCYC had bitten off a little more than they could chew, those inside this generous city knew, “...If we built it, they would come…”  and they have!

  • 76 competitors,

  • 21 countries,

  • A host of full-time International and Australian Officials and volunteers,

  • An army of RC enthusiasts wanting to watch the racing will descend into the city this October.

The support from Gladstone’s small businesses, industry leaders, and local government has been extraordinary and, many would suggest, unprecedented in Australia’s RC sports history. The financial and in-kind contributions have enabled the World Working Group to develop a state-of-the-art race precinct, offer the best the world has to offer with race management and officiating and reward competitors with a world-class sailing venue and popular social activities.

Race Precinct Logistics: The World Working Group has been working tirelessly to create a championship race precinct from scratch. Key features include:

  • Two massive undercover structures and three 25-meter booth-style competitor rigging and relaxation areas will ensure shaded comfort for all participants.

  • Comprehensive catering facilities.

  • Dedicated dry launching facilities for competitors.

  • Competitor-Centric Amenities.

  • Online scoring and fleet management systems .

  • Racing will be live-streamed to the world through a dedicated YouTube channel each day. Four full-time commentators and multi-camera locations will cover the action.

Understanding the importance of seamless logistics for competitors, the IOMWWG has implemented several initiatives, including a fixed route, exclusive free bus loop for inner-city accommodation each morning and afternoon of racing, ensuring easy and convenient transportation, a comprehensive ticketing system for events and social activities, and efficient booking systems for registration and measurement and nightly activities to encourage social interaction among the racing fraternity.

Digital Integration

All logistical details and updates have been effectively communicated through a highly functional and comprehensive website, ensuring competitors are well-informed and prepared for the event. This platform has been pivotal in conveying essential information and will remain a central hub for all championship-related activities.

The IOM World Working Group is confident that these efforts will culminate in an unforgettable championship experience for all participants and attendees. We are grateful for the incredible support from the Gladstone community and look forward to showcasing this world-class event in October.
